Dicey Alaskan Weather

Postby spotlope on Sat Jul 25, 2009 1:34 am

Sometimes, everything just comes together for a perfect flight. I had a chance to fly for fun last night - a rarity these days - and decided to load up all the fun goodies I've been collecting over the last few months. It was a fairly short flight, a hop from Wrangell to Telegraph Creek. I got a little glass-obsessed at the start and plotted a direct-to route, but somewhere over the Stikine River I abandoned that scheme in favor of just following the terrain.

These shots are a compilation of the following:
  • FSX/Accel.
  • Terrain by Tongass Fjords X
  • Clouds and environment by Real Environment X
  • Real-world weather by Active Sky Advanced
  • Plane by Lionheart Creations (Quest Kodiak)
  • Paint job by Pekka (BushPilot) - the "dirty" Tongass blue scheme

The REX sky just knocked me out.

You can just see a tip of Mud Glacier on the lower left.

Here's where I deviated from the straight and narrow. The Stikine river valley was just too tempting.

Beautiful British Columbia! The mountains smooth out in favor of rolling forests as I approach Telegraph Creek.

Just as I'm about to tumble to Earth, the gear claps hard against the runway. A stall from 10 feet up is no fun. Still, I'm in one piece and so is the plane, so I get paid.

Wow Bill...best looking shots I've seen in awhile! Well done. Scenery's not too shabby looking either :D Hope to purchase it soon.

Bill,

You lucked out and got some exceptional cloud formations, makes for a great flight. Thanks to you and Holger's Tongrass X I have made that very same flight with the same add on's but with the exception of the paint on the Kodiac.
