A) ...see the Virtual Sailor Shipyard properly up-to-date again?
Yesterday, I started the huge task of getting my site properly up-to-date again. I aim to have all available links to all available Virtual Sailor stuff on it, so you won't need to visit multiple sites to find what you're looking for. And because people might not like me direct linking to files on their webspace, I'll also be adding a link to the download page instead of the file itself. It'll be a big task doing this and I doubt it would take me less than a few weeks. Especially since I'm going to redo all the download file lists to make sure they're completely properly working. If you would like to give me a hand, that might greatly speed up things. In attached file, you can find the work I've been doing yesterday. I started putting all scenery's with all their download links into that Excel file by browsing all Virtual Sailor websites (obviously I'm not done yet). If anyone would be wanting to do the same with the boats, it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, I'll just do it myself, but that would most likely take longer.
Also: If you have any comments on how I might improve the workings of my site, now would be the time to come up with them. And please don't ask me to implement a search feature, unless you know a way of making a searchable database, because I haven't got the slightest idea how to.
Final note: Please also speak up if you think there's no actual need for my site having everything available on it again, like it used to. If it's unnescesary, I'd much better do something else. Something like:

B) ...see me do another ship model?
I'd very much like to do another ship model soon. Personally, I'm thinking of either of these three options:
1) A self-designed clipper called the "Golfkliever"
2) A rebuild of the MS Bremen
3) A different cruiseship

If you have another good idea, feel free to post it, as long as it's a large modern ship of a type we don't have enough of in VS. I don't like building smaller ships and older type ships are rather hard, especially texture-wise and I'm not good at textures at all. Also: I want to make a model that would sort-of fill a void in the VS ship assortment, so I'm not going to make some boat of a type we already have dozens of.

Whatever model I will make, I would very much like to put the most detail in it of all my models and, for the first time, actually add the large interior I'm wanting to add. I would especially like to build the "Golfkliever" with an entire sub-deck of interior. I already mapped out the interior of that ship years ago, so I'd very much like to build it.

Wow, sounds like you have a busy few weeks ahead! Well, good luck! You've got a fantastic site there, and I can't wait to see it up to date! :) I've no suggestions as such, but I'll have a think and get back to you...

To Mattaf: Thanks. And be sure to give any comment you can think of that I might use to improve things! :)

To Karbine: I'm sorry to say that I'm not really into river boats; I prefer the really large ones. But could you please post a picture of the type of ship you'd like anyway?

To all: I just updated the attached file; now all available scenery + links shouldbe in it. If you could check it out and make sure nothing's missing, that wuld be great. :P

Pieter,

You've done a very nice job on your site. It's been my first stop for getting anything related to VS.

As for models, my vote would be for a RO/RO of any type. The bigger the better ;)

I have 2 ideas of ships which can be easy to make.

1 > St Helen -Wightlink- (Portsmouth<>Isle of Wight)
Image

For this ships I can give you bridge shots I made myself.

2 > Brave/Dawn/Northern/Midnight Merchant -Norfolk Line- (Dover<>Dunkerque)
Image

Bridge shots still available.

The common point of this ships is that they can both be use on the "England Scenery".

Hi there Pieter,

I would like you to build the ship of your dreams! The one you drew when you were just growing up.

GOLF KLIEVER

pieter, for morales sake i'd say build your own ship.
But i most bring this to attention:

I WOULD LOVE A HIGHLY DETAILED SUPERTANKER

the one we have now looks like a toy because it looks fresh out the harbour with polish added.
RUGBY TILL I DIE

Well played, you almost beat us!

about ferries

Postby Roaring40s on Mon Jun 20, 2005 6:04 pm

Hello ferrysailors,

If you are fond of ferries, why not vote for some cargoferries?
There are allready lots passengerferries in VS, but no cargoferries.
On the Northsea and Baltic Sea are sailing more cargoferries then passengerferries. Like these examples...

And Pieter? If your clipper will be a clipper like the "Stad Amsterdam" you can count on my vote.

Personally, I think we've got plenty of ferries for the time being. But maybe, If I have a little bit of time once, I'll do a more-or-less simple model.
Seems like there are several people who would like me to build the Golfkliever. I must say I would indeed enjoy building that one. With plenty of deck detail and a nice wooden interior with lots of rooms... :)

BTW: I'm wondering if I could get some interest in Virtual Sailor at the school I'll be going to next year to learn to become a sailor. If so, we might get a lot of new people here. Plus maybe I'll be able to keep modeling during my school time. That would be nice.

She will indeed be like the "Stad Amsterdam"; I was already planning on basing her general looks on her, because I like that clipper a lot. Plus I've seen it being built. So she'll probably be half "Stad Amsterdam" and half my own design. The design's a bit old, so I'll be doing some modifications.

What we all have here on VS is ferries, cargo ships, old ships, and small cruise ships. What we actually do need is LARGE CRUISE SHIPS. I'm talking about the 953 ft. long, 110,000 gross tonage, 3,000 passenger cruise ship Carnival Conquest!!! I've been waiting for this ship since I first arrived here, about over a year now.

And what would be neat is designing the 9 deck high lobby/atrium that runs inside the ship. It is the Heart of the vessel.

I took this cruise a year ago on July 4, 2004. It is so HUGE and BEAUTIFUL!!!

If you need complete deckplans, I can get them to you whenever you want!
